The National Commissioners

Under the leadership of Umar Mohammed, as the Chief Commissioner, the Scout Association of Nigeria has experienced a renewed sense of direction, growth, and transparency. His administration has strengthened the movement’s visibility and accountability, ensuring that more Scouting activities, trainings, and community projects are open, documented, and accessible. With a focus on youth development, discipline, and national service, Umar Mohammed has continued to uphold the mission of Scouting while inspiring leaders, volunteers, and young people across the country. His stewardship reflects commitment, openness, and progress — supporting active Scouting programs nationwide and reinforcing the movement’s role as a beacon of character-building and service among Nigerian youths.

Welcome Message from the Chief Commissioner

Dear Scouts, Leaders, Partners, and Friends of Scouting,

It is with great pride and deep commitment to our noble movement that I welcome you to the Scout Association of Nigeria.

For over a century, Scouting has stood as a beacon of hope, character, discipline, and service to humanity. In Nigeria, we continue this proud legacy by raising young people who are prepared not only to lead but to serve — guided by honor, integrity, and love for country.

Scouting is more than a uniform or a camp; it is a way of life.

We are called to:

  • Uphold the Scout Promise

  • Live by the Scout Law

  • Embrace the ethics of Scouting

  • Serve others selflessly

  • Respect God and country

  • Promote peace and unity

  • Protect our environment

  • Practice leadership with humility

  • Do a Good Turn every day

Our mission remains clear: to build responsible citizens and future leaders who will create a better Nigeria and a better world.

To every Cub Scout, Scout, Rover, Leader, and volunteer — you are part of a global family committed to service, love, and transformation. Let us continue to inspire one another, strengthen our communities, and demonstrate that Scouting is a powerful force for good.

As we move forward, may we remain faithful to our principles, courageous in our service, and united in our purpose.

Together, let us build a better world — one Scout, one good turn, one act of love at a time.

Yours in Scouting,

Mr. Umar Muhammad

Late Chief Scout - A Legacy of Honor and Service

Tribute to the Late Chief Scout - Dr. Olusoga Sofolahan Atibioke Olori Omo-Oba

To the Scouts and Leaders of Nigeria,

Today, we remember with deep respect and gratitude our revered Chief Scout, Dr. Olusoga Sofolahan Atibioke Olori Omo-Oba, whose life was devoted to service, leadership, and the noble ideals of Scouting.

He was more than a leader — he was a symbol of honor, discipline, and unwavering commitment to youth development in Nigeria. Under his guidance, Scouting continued to flourish as a movement of character, unity, and national pride.

Dr. Atibioke believed strongly that Scouting was not merely an organization but a lifelong calling. He encouraged every Scout to:

  • Live by the Scout Promise and Law

  • Lead with integrity and courage

  • Serve others selflessly

  • Promote peace and unity across Nigeria

  • Practice a Good Turn every day

His leadership reflected the true spirit of Scouting — humility in service, strength in character, and faith in the potential of young people to transform society.

Though he has departed from our midst, his legacy remains alive in every Cub Scout learning discipline, every Rover serving the community, and every leader mentoring the next generation.

Let us honor his memory not only with words but with action — by upholding the ethics of Scouting, strengthening our unity, and committing ourselves to building a better Nigeria.

May his noble soul rest in perfect peace, and may his vision continue to guide the Scout Association of Nigeria for generations to come.

Yours in Scouting,

The Scout Association of Nigeria

Retired Justice Christopher Awubra

Dear Scouts, Leaders, Rovers, Cubs, and Friends of Scouting across Nigeria,

It is with deep humility and a profound sense of responsibility that I extend my warmest greetings to every member of the Scout Association of Nigeria.

Scouting remains one of the greatest movements for youth development in our nation’s history. For generations, it has shaped boys and girls into responsible citizens, disciplined leaders, and compassionate servants of society. Today, we must renew our commitment to the noble ideals that define us.

As Scouts, we are guided by the timeless values of the Scout Promise and Scout Law. These are not merely words we recite — they are principles we must live by daily:

  • To be trustworthy and loyal

  • To be helpful and kind

  • To be disciplined and courageous

  • To respect others and our nation

  • To protect the environment

  • To serve humanity selflessly

  • To do a Good Turn every day

Our country looks to its young people for hope, innovation, and leadership. Through Scouting, we prepare ourselves not just for personal success, but for meaningful service to Nigeria and the world.

Let us strengthen our unity, uphold the ethics of Scouting, and continue building character in every troop, every patrol, and every council across the federation.

Together, we shall preserve the proud legacy of Nigerian Scouting and inspire a future built on honor, service, integrity, and love.

May we always remember: once a Scout, always a Scout.

Yours in Scouting,

HON. National Secretary - The Scout Association of Nigeria

To my Fellow Scouts, Leaders, and Friends of the Movement. There is a unique kind of magic that happens when a person puts on the Scout scarf. It isn’t just about the fabric or the knots; it’s about the profound sense of purpose that comes from answering the call to serve humanity.

Today, I want to share in the collective joy we feel as members of The Scout Association of Nigeria.

Being a Scout is more than a hobby, it is a commitment to being a "Messenger of Peace" in a world that often feels divided.

There is no greater fulfillment than the "Daily Good Turn." Whether we are leading a community sanitation project, mentoring a younger Cub, or providing disaster relief, we do so with a willing heart. We don't serve because we have to; we serve because we have discovered that by losing ourselves in the service of others, we truly find ourselves.

As we navigate our journey, let us stay anchored in the core of our movement:

1. Our Mission: To contribute to the education of young people through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law.

2. Our Vision: To be the world’s leading educational youth movement, enabling 100 million young people to be active citizens creating positive change.

In Nigeria, our role is pivotal. Every time we plant a tree, advocate for a neighbor, or lead with integrity, we are stitching together the fabric of a stronger nation.

We don’t just "do" scouting; we live it through a proven system that transforms character. Let us never lose sight of our tools:

1. Learning by Doing: Take initiative. Don't fear mistakes; they are our greatest teachers.

2. The Patrol System: Foster leadership and teamwork. Small groups are where the biggest ideas are born.

3. Nature as our Classroom: Respect the environment. It is the heritage we must protect for the Scouts of tomorrow.

4. Personal Progression: Challenge yourself daily to be better than you were yesterday.

To the Scout walking the dusty trails and the "Scout Lover" supporting us from the sidelines: Do not grow weary. The path to creating a better world is rarely a straight line. It is often uphill and through thickets. But remember, a Scout is brave, and a Scout smiles under all difficulties. Your small acts of kindness are the seeds of a global forest.

You are not just a member of an association; you are a builder of a civilization based on love, peace, and brotherhood. "Leave this world a little better than you found it." — Lord Baden-Powell

Keep the fire of scouting burning bright in your hearts. Let us continue to march forward, hand in hand, creating the world we wish to see.

Be Prepared!
